Fringe Festival!
This
year's Fringe Festival
is slowly coming to an end. As was written by Scottish
newspapers it is the
largest to date of
all the festivals that have taken place
in this city. Not only because of the number of all performances, but also the
number of arrivals of tourists. In many cases these people have to overcome,
one thousand kilometers in a few days but enjoy all that pleases the eye with
what is happening here.
Their performances during the festival are not only for the great of this world, but it is above all a great and unique opportunity to exist as an artist for those who are just starting, or would like to start their career .
Fringe Festival history dates back to 1947, when eight theatre groups appeared uninvited at Edinburgh International Festival shows (then newly formed), which aimed to celebrate the inauguration of the European Common Market and enrich cultural life, which sank after the Second World War.
The fact that they were not part of the official festival program did not stop these artists from showing their arts and performances. Every year more and more artists followed their example by coming to the festival, until 1959 when the Society was officially established in response to the increase in the success of this art form.
When you follow the Royal Mile, which is the heart of what is happening at the festival, you'll see people dressed in weird clothes sometimes, made-up, who play their actor's roles. One for example is a knight knighting children, another is a woman- spirit or woman-fish, and someone else is certainly a circus employee on leave, because who else would be able to simultaneously juggle, stand on a ladder and on a board rocking left and right.
Show Promoters patiently await the presentation of information leaflets about what will be presented to their viewers, encouraging, or disguising their speech to participate in it.
Of course there is no shortage of kitsch, which can be sold to the public, because where else can you play a full festival as a half-naked guy with a guitar in hand, with green hair on his head and fins on his feet, moreover, firmly convinced of his talent?
What I like most about this artistic event is that by walking in Edinburgh alone I can decide where I want to attend the presentation. Others do the same, stopping in front of the person who presents art forms, which seem to be most interesting.
You cannot not be happy with what you look at, because every artist has something different to show and is doing everything to attract attention.
Of course, it is impossible to see everything happening during the Fringe Festival, but even a long weekend stay remains in your memory for a long time, because these shows are so very different from what you see in the theater or cinema.
Often improvisation, or slips in performance do not attract booing from the audience. This gives more opportunity to improve relations between viewer and showman, because what could be better than laughter in bringing the viewer closer to the artist.
Evening festival life in the old town is dying, because the artists perform their shows all over the city. Each of the tourists has already established an early schedule, which they want to see.
Before one of the performances which I went this year, I met a woman who with her son arrived for four days by train from a distant part of England for the Festival Fringe. They had developed very well what they wanted to see in terms of graphics, the calculated time to move to another place in the city, as well as a complimentary coffee break.
I could write a lot about the Festival Fringe in 2010, but I will say in conclusion that one cannot deny oneself the opportunity at least once to come to Edinburgh for a wonderful art event.
There is space for improvising artists. There is definitely a place for these very talented people. It is also an opportunity to experience the mix of cultures, as festival guest artists and tourists come from around the world.
Only one week left before the end of the festival which will take the sun from the Scottish skies, but it will not take the positive experiences and feelings that brought everything, for both artists and especially participants of this unique event!
